I opened my eyes. The bed sheets were really comfortable. One of those feathery badass ones that make you want to stay in bed all day long. The crying eyes of my Mom made me want to leave this bed pretty quickly.

The lights were too bright.

A nurse was walking past my bed – my parents smiled at me with sad eyes.

I fucked up- I thought. I had done something REALLY bad. I had seen those faces before. There you go … Some serious conversation is going to happen. Where is the door? I couldn’t get up …

“Just living is not enough,” said the butterfly,
“one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”

Leaving Bali felt right. I started to get too comfortable and needed something new. But before heading to Java, there was something I needed to do. Full of the excitement that lies in heading to unknown places, I was ready to start a new adventure and felt like walking out of an action movie. You know that feeling when you leave the cinema and you actually are the hero that saved the world. That was me on this day, ready to master everything that got into my way… until I saw that angry guy in a uniform standing right next to my scooter.

YAY! A road trip! I LOVE those! Though this one was a bit fancier than normal: We had a driver. His name was Agung, he lived close to us in Ubud and didn’t talk much, but he nodded. So every time he did that, I pictured him saying “Yes great! Awesome” and this is how we got along.

Our first stop took us to a mountain that overlooked the “Tamblingan Lake” and the “Buyan Lake”. Huge bats and snakes were carried around by some guys who wanted money for a picture. And when I say huge bats I mean 2 massive meter bats!

This burning heat- it’s killing me! You get up in the morning and more or less force yourself into the shower to quickly wake up under annoying droplets of low water pressure that are coming down way too cold. But it’s good. It wakes you up, you feel refreshed and ready to start the day.

Until you leave your hut.

“Hi Denise- I’m back and I’ll make you MEEEEELT!”, it’s whispering.

Freshly showered, covered in sweat 5 minutes later, my Indonesian language classes are about to begin.

Using bathrooms in Indonesia is quite an experience I have to admit. After 10 hours of sitting in the plane, eating too much weird food and watching series …and my failed attempts to beat that damn chess computer, I finally made it to Kuala Lumpur. My first stop before Denpasar. Well, having to hang out at the airport, I have to admit that it was not quite that interesting, but Oh! Wait! There was a tropical rainforest inside the airport!! Hahaha. Picture that! Surrounded by glass with a door that leads you into the world of a tropical rainforest…

Went in. Too hot. Too humid. Went out.

“Have you ever been to Kuala Lumpur?” – “Sure! I went to the rainforest there… *coughs* … Awesome.”
