I made it to Florianopolis! “One of the most breathtaking places in Brazil”, I was told in Indonesia. Well, if someone tells me that near Bali, I guess I have to check it out.

And I was not to be disappointed.

JOAQUIN BEACH DRONE

Florianopolis has over 42 beaches and is 1,5 hours away from São Paulo by plane or 18 hours by bus. You want to get the plane here!

But not one at 7am in the morning! I barely got out of bed, had 10 minutes to get ready and jumped into the taxi.

The driver was as moody as me at 5am in the morning and his mood did not get any better once I told him half way that we had to turn around, because I had forgotten stuff…

There was not much time left to go to the gate once I made it back to the airport in São Paulo and as Brazilians looove to walk in slow motion I was getting more and more nervous.

Luckily I had a pregnant lady in front of me and joined her in the special line. Bags were checked fast- no one saw my forbidden portable charger and I made it to the gate at 6.20. HA!

I overslept the whole flight, somehow made it to the hostel and fell asleep at the beach. Woke up with a sunburn and full of sand.

Great holiday so far.

Planning to be more active I signed up for a festival that same day.

Still sleepy from the beach I kind of got ready and hopped into the hostel bus, which was packed with about 15 people I did not know yet. Everyone spoke Portuguese.  “Alright,” I figured. “Can’t cheat myself out with English here” and the more I drunk the more I understood and by the end of the night I only talked Portuguese with some guys at the festival. Nice one.

The traffic was horrible and instead of 30 minutes it took us 3 hours. At some point we got out of the bus and walked next to the car. That was kind of nice as we could buy beer off some street vendors and had a little hike.

The festival was not really a festival as they only had one stage that played all sorts of music, but I slowly woke up and the night actually turned into a fun one.

A bus brought us all back to the hostel in Barra Lagoa, Florianopolis at 2am and I (you could have guessed so) fell right asleep.

Oh well… I had also started a fruit diet, meaning you only eat fruit all day long. It’s kind of awesome as it makes you so happy and energetic, but in combination with alcohol it doesn’t work that well, haha.

Anyways. Fruit diet was going well and as I snacked on my morning breakfast fruit bowl about 5 people in security jackets were passing the hostel kitchen and walked past the pool.

“What is happening?”

“A 3-year anniversary party of the hostel tonight. 400 people coming”, someone answered me.

Awesome.

So, tonight was going to be another long one. This morning shall be healthier, I decided whilst I packed my drone for a hike. Floris, a Dutch guy I’ve met at the hostel joined me on the trip and we started to walk along the beach.

On our way towards the natural ponds on Florianopolis we met Niahm and Eve, two sweet girls from Ireland and decided to hike together. Those natural ponds in the north east of Florianopolis are a perfect place to hang out and have a good swim. If you like jumping off rocks – this is your place!

The hike was a long one and led us through a spidery jungle, and I still can’t believe I made it up that mountain top – but hey: what a view!!

Flew up my drone and then the eagles came circling my weird flying object with their dark black wings.

Oh Oh – this can’t be good! I should definitely fly down and land, but it looked so nice I decided to follow the birds up in the air. Luckily they did not attack and my drone made it back to the ground safely. I would never do that again, I swore to myself and kind of knew I would though.

After some more hiking an amazing bowl of Acaii (my fruit diet was going well) we went back to the hostel to get ready for tonight’s party.

It was amazing. A lot of people, some guys I’ve met the night before, good music and a lot of Caipirinha. I fell asleep at 11pm (fruit diets and alcohol are not meant to be, hahaha).

The next morning we had a hangover to get rid off and decided to work on that on the beach. It’s a Surfer’s spot and you can both do surfing and go sandboarding. Nice one! I’ve done that in the Atacama desert already, but here it was way cheaper (20 Real/ hour). The sand dunes in Chile had been so soft, there was no pain when you fell, but here it was different: Daaaamn. First of all they had no proper snowboards and boots, those sandboards were just two boards you slipped your feet in. I went down straight and fast and ooooouuuch that hurt when I fell!! I thought sand was soft?! Damn it was so fluffy in the desert- but not here. I guessed my butt was blue and decided to record some drone footage of other people falling instead.

As beautiful as Florianopolis is, those sand dunes were not my favourites!

Back at the hostel I showed my drone footage to a guy sitting at the table and we watched surfers riding waves out of a bird’s perspective.

He looked at me and asked “Do you want to work for us and stay here for free?”

Turned out he was the owner of The Search House and I was offered a small job. I might come back to this nice place I figured.
